What is aging of a polymer?

Aging of a polymer is the undesirable change of its chemical and physical structure during application, i.e., mostly under atmospheric conditions. Chemical changes occur during both processing and application. Processing is usually carried out at elevated temperatures where thermal and oxidative reactions may become important.

Could chemical cocktails reverse biological aging?

A team of researchers has recently claimed to have discovered six chemical cocktails that could help reverse biological aging. Yet these preliminary laboratory results are a long way away from being applied to humans.

What are physical aging processes?

Physical aging processes are, for example, recrystallization and the relief of internal stress (Section 10.3). These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.

Are plasticizers physicochemical aging?

Plastics for medical purposes must be stable toward disinfectants; for example, toward salicylic acid. In this section only chemical aging will be discussed. The migration of plasticizers (see Section 10.5.6) can be considered as a special case of physicochemical aging.
